Though this song isn't necessarily new (it was released on a promo Chickens In Love CD last year.. which I believe was a charity for children), my girl Fiona Apple is using it on her new album. Thanks to my Tucson friend, and artist, Jaime J. Soto for pointing out this song to me, again. I forgot about it and how happy it makes me feel. (Yes, Fiona Apple can make you feel happy.)

Actually, no that is not all. Fiona Apple shares top billing with Robyn as my favorite female artist(s). I cannot wait until the new album drops! She is still the only female artist to whom I've ever listened who has 32 released songs that are all good. ALL - zero filler. She is a genius, and if you disagree, you deserve to have your headphones crushed while they're inside of your ears.

I love her. I want to defy science and have her angry little chagrin-ridden babies. Hooray!

As someone of Swedish lineage (have you read my last name?), I always get excited when I hear something good come from IKEA Proper. Of course, everyone knows my long-past-borderline obsession with Robyn, as well as my great appreciations for Lykke Li, The Hives, The Knife, Teddybears, The Sounds, Caesars, Fever Ray, Miike Snow, Kleerup, Shout Out Louds, Millencolin, Peter Bjorn & John, ABBA, The Cardigans, and (lest we forget) Roxette! Can Sweden get any better, musically?

In any case, the constitutional kingdom of meatballs and allen wrenches produced Le Kid, a dual-female led synth rock band with a lot of spandex and sass. This Fear of Tigers remix has been out a few months, but is new to me, and that's all that matters. Hopefully you dig at as much as I do. Hooray!

This song screams of both Dev's and Timbaland's style. You can hear touches of the latter's old production of Missy Elliot tracks. The only draw back here is that this song gives an uneasy feeling that Dev's new album is going to feel a little too homogenous. Hopefully I am wrong, as I think she has a great chance to be a big deal, and probably deserves it, as she's yet to sell out like a talentless sex kitten (I'll let you fill in that blank).

I do love the breakdown here, but only because it doesn't quite fit with the song, but then blends seamlessly back into it. She manages to sound understated and sexy, simultaneously, and I heart that.

Check out this brand new track from the group of producers, Miike Snow. It is nothing short of interesting. I really enjoy some of their songs, but am by no means a die-hard fan. I do love how fascinating some of the sounds they use are, and I hope this is the beginning of a deeply produced and lush record.

Santi White, the NYC-based and wonderfully talented songstress returns with this new single, Big Mouth. If you like Santigold, you will like this track. What I really enjoy about her is that she had every opportunity in the world (at least one would think) to popularize her sound and drown it out with production and big studio money, but she instead has stayed creative, rooted, and raw in her delivery... and I hope the rest of her new album keeps my ears just as happy.

If there was ever a signal that Lady Gaga's sound has changed, it's the kind of tracks you hear in her B-sides from The Fame. In any case, here's my favorite track of those. In Disco Heaven, you hear a young, hungry, fun-filled Gaga... which by today's standards is pretty hard to conceptualize. Now, I'm not saying her head has inflated so large that she's overstated her relevance... but I am. Ha. Enjoy:

Scissor Sisters are back, and (for once) I'm happy with the result of their latest reinvention. I didn't hate their last album nearly as much as I did Ta-Dah, but I definitely think it was nothing compared to their self-titled debut record. Here, they return to what they do best: fusion of different styles of dance with more than a hint of amorality. Hooray!

This is not my best work, ever, but still a lot of fun to make and mix between tracks. I am a big fan of this song (especially the 2nd verse), and simply wanted to make it mixable for the bars. It deserves to be popular on many levels, and hopefully will take off accordingly. I do know one thing: my followers will hear it often.

Cosmic Dawn is quickly becoming my favorite source of phenomenal pop remixes. This Norweigan master is getting bigger and bigger, and I couldn't be happier about that. He incorporates parts of nü disco and electro, as well as maintaing a great deal of respect for the pop electronica that should never be lost from the original tracks when he remixes. In any case, here is a mix I recently edited down into a club track.

Criminal (Cosmic Dawn v. MAJR edit) - Britney Spears

On my side of things, I messed with the tempo, as well as the momentum of the track. I wanted a good, mixable track with proper intro and outro placement, as well as the kind of house energy needed for my sets. The drop in this song is a little unbecoming, but that's Britney Spears' fault - let's be real. The original track isn't too powerful, but this remix overcomes that to an extent. And, I look forward to playing it.

Sunday Girl is slowly growing into my good graces, I must say. And, Buzz Junkies, who haven't been on my radar since their (fucking amazing) remix of Robyn's Dancing On My Own (Listen/DL HERE), 18+ months ago, are back in my happy place.

I downloaded this remix recently, and though I love listening to the entire 7:00+ track while walking, I wanted to make it club-ready. It's quite beautiful, yet danceable, and that's something I like about Buzz Junkies. They have a fantastic grasp of trance-influenced house, with a modern electro edge- and that makes me smile. After his phenomenal vocals on Martin Solveig's Ready 2 Go, and Tiësto's It's Not the Things You Say, it's easy to say that my favorite black homosexual singer is battin' a thousand right now.

Here's my first love on this EP. This song is just glorious. It gives electronica lovers an eargasm and makes indie lovers adore all that is their amour for Bloc Party's heart and soul.

So, here's a fresh little ditty of a remix. Since Lady Gaga is finally releasing a song that doesn't blow balls off Born This Way, I am excited to post remixes of it! Hooray! Way to not fuck up anymore, woman. There are 5 songs on the album that should have been released already: Americano, Heavy Metal Lover, Scheiße, Government Hooker, and Marry the Night. Now, I have to admit I didn't hate Judas nearly as much as I wanted to- it had a wonderful electro edge- but it can't hold a candle to the previously mentioned quintet.

Alas, here we have the first remix of Marry the Night that I haven't immediately trashed. Done by relatively unknown David Jost Twin, this is a really interesting take on the recording. So, enjoy another lovely polished turd... just kidding. This is pretty good, though I do enjoy the original a little more.

As far as the new Sneaky Sound System album, my favorite dance track (my favorite track of all is downtempo) is EASILY I Need You So. This track is big as hell, and the bass rocks the hell out of my car speakers... try for yourself...

As far as this club edit, I wanted to shorten the song, up it to a house beat (128bpm) and drop the parts that would possibly kill a dance floor. The song itself is an aphrodisiac to the ears, but to a dance crowd it needs editing. Check it:

I had a lot of fun editing this remix (all goddamned morning). Alessio Silvestro, for the 2nd track in a row (the first was Rihanna's We Found Love) has done a pretty awesome job at remixing a brand new song. I thought it needed some help in the momentum department, for my tastes, so I did my best to make it into something I would love to play live. Here's the glorious Lady Gaga performing on X-Factor. I wasn't floored by this, but I was impressed that she stayed mostly in-key. The song really is a showcase of her vocal talent, and I'm glad she pulled it off. The performance was quite good, and I'm glad she took a dramatic angle with its delivery.

I recently rediscovered this old remix by Crookers of U2 that is fantastic. I used to play this track back in 2009, and I still enjoy it. It is so good (if you don't hate U2) and worth having if you enjoy throwing in an unexpected track in your sets -- which is what I did in my Capital Pride set (at the Hirshhorn in '09). I have had a few run-throughs of this track, and I have to say it gets better and better each time. I love Madonna, yes, but she is no poet- that's for sure (at least not since Ray of Light). "So Alive" is one of those songs that hit me at the right time when I was in my early 20's. God, I loved this song. I still get very reminiscent when I hear it. It dropped when I was probably at my lowest point personally (hard to believe, huh) in late 2003, and it was a time, musically, when I was very into melodic indie rock. This phase would slowly fade into the neo-new wave era of the mid-2000's and slide right into a healthy electro obsession from 2006-to-present.

Ryan Adams is a great writer and this is from his most underrated record, Rock N Roll. I have been working on this for a few days, and finally finished it last night. You see, I love Benny Benassi. He is the godfather of electro-dance, in my opinion. And, Florence Welch (of Florence + The Machine) is the strongest female voice I've ever heard live, with a style all her own- despite how influenced it is by the greats in music (see: Björk, Thom Yorke, Damien Rice, Tori Amos, Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, etc.).

When I heard that Benassi was sanctioned to make one of the official remixes of Florence's new (soon to be massive hit) track, Shake It Out, I basically creamed my jeans. When getting the track a few days ago, I was highly impressed, but knew that the track needed to be fixed to play it live. The original, much like Florence's sound, shoots in two very dichotomous directions: the soft and atmospheric vs. the loud passionate explosion. In a club, that doesn't work with a crowd that hates a buzzkill, even if it is Florence's beautiful voice and Benassi's delicate synths doing the killing.

So, I took this:

Shake It Out (Benny Benassi vs. DJ MAJR edit) - Florence + The Machine by MAJRmusic

First, the tempo had to be increased toward a more raw house beat (from 126 to 128). Putting it at 128 means that the window to further increase it to 130 is available in a club setting (very important to me). I then cut up the introduction and mixed it with pieces of the track from various places. I wanted the song to flow properly into the vocals after 30 seconds, and I wanted the final 30 seconds to be a mirror. I then manipulated the levels and the placement of the backbeat, so that it could always shake your ass while it's playing, even when her voice is soft and introspective. To dictate momentum and prevent boredom (of me and my audience), I cut the rest of the track up (deleted any fluff) and made sure that it was always a part of one giant movement, while also creating enough explosion to provoke the proper dance-your-face-off essence (R.I.P. SHIFT). (There are a lot more little things here and there that I did- with bass and output levels, etc.- but I won't bore you with all that jazz).

That's the thing many DJs forget: what it feels like to be on the floor, feeling every beat and soaking in sensitive melodic aspect into your permeable eardrums. I'm not the greatest DJ in the world - nor do I ever care to be - I just want to be moved to fucking dance and be inspired in my own release.

Defend your ears.

Expect more of your stimuli.

Shake it out.

It is also worth mentioning that this song is highly inspiration to me, or anyone, who has ever had a terrible run of luck, felt down on oneself, unstoppably masochistic, and unreasonably self-critical. Shake it out, y'all. And, do it on the dancefloor.

First, we have the lovely Luciana who is a club icon on the other side of the Atlantic, as far as electro-dance tracks g0 (Look up: "I Like That", "I'm Still Hot", "I Got My Eye On You"). This track, produced by Bodyrox, was pretty huge a couple years ago, and is definitely worth a revisit.

This song is a must have for your Autumn song collection. It has been in my 10 or so song loop in the last couple weeks, and I now deem it quality enough to share with you bitches and hoes out there. Y'all will dig this track- I swear. It is by Spank Rock, an artist often seen playing second fiddle in a lot of indie/hip-hop tracks, but now is front-and-center for us to enjoy. His good friend, and super-talented girl, Santigold adds her unique flavor (goddamn, I love her vocals) to the track. This is just fun and lite without being watered down and boring. Enjoy!

Wolfgang Gartner is an interesting (and super talented) producer/dj. He really works to produce unique sounds that are his and only his, and it shows in his products. The diligence he has toward making music is admirable, and I am so happy to see him becoming more and more popular. There are songs in my life that mean so much that describing why would only leave more ambiguity than clarity. "All My Friends" is a song written so frankly and beautifully, while musically solid, that it embodies everything I love in a song. It is in my top 10 songs ever, and the Franz Ferdinand version is closer to the top 5 of that.

There is nothing to take away from the original version. It is amazing. One blogger once wrote, quite perfectly, that "The Franz Ferdinand version is constructed more solidly and they get a chance to show off their musical ability, while the LCD Soundsystem original has depth and honesty." I have to agree. Well, mostly. The former doesn't lack honesty, it just adds intensity.

In the moments of reflection, in my life, that this song emits... the moments when we think about what we're actually doing amid all the static; where everything seems to be moving in a slow motion accident around us; where we reflect on our 'actual' humanity and personal connections/intimacy in a life so fleeting...

...In those moments, I am not in a thoughtful state of inner rumination (like the LCD track)... I am in a barely simmering state of volcanic, passionate, deliberate dancing while crying tears of melancholy joy and screaming out at the top of my lungs "WHERE ARE YOUR FRIENDS TONIGHT?!" as my head swims in a whirlpool of the bitter and the sweet, as emotions soar up and down with the chords of a song that embodies the pure insanity that is the lucidity that is the life we live, and in which we must revel.

This song is that for me.

I did this a few days ago, and I'm quite happy with the response. This is seriously probably the worst song Britney Spears has ever "made." But, this remix is absolutely stellar. Shark Blood has some serious talent. I shaved it down, displaced some bass lines, played with the momentum/tempo, and voila! I'll let you listen for yourself, but I will say this: I hate dubstep more than any other genre of music. I'd rather listen to karaoke covers of death metal with accenting slide guitar and piccolo. It's a terrible genre for drunk white bitches to grind up on their girlfriends in some false sense of nauseating bro-dom. This remix gives the How's Your Father to the dreadful dance genre with some danceable electro and a club-ready house bpm.

Is there anything Buffetlibre can get wrong, when it comes to remixes? Personally, as a big fan of The Rapture, I was not impressed by their (long awaited) new single "How Deep Is Your Love." So, I like this song by Lady Gaga. It's not her best, but it's a quality track, and I really wanted to make it ready for the dance floor. I cut it up into pieces, sewed it back together like a post-birth vagina, gave it a nice intro and outro for mixing (I especially love the outro), and sped up the tempo from 128 to 130. Here's a tune I've loved for a few years that came on my shuffle the other day. What a great little indie dance track this is from The Black Ghosts. The sound really takes me back to my original dance-roots sound of indie dance meets brit-rock (e.g. Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, Futureheads, etc.) that got me going out to clubs in the first place.

God bless this damned song. Now put on your hipster scarf that has no business being on you in early September and press back your Carrera knock-offs with their terrible plaid design... because it's the mid-2000's again, you can, and this song demands it, bitches...

Sometimes, though never when playing live, I just like a big ol' extended remix in my everyday life. This is especially true now that I walk to campus and require the 8 min+ uptempo cadence-maker to keep me moving and get my blood pumping on a morning where all I really want to do is eat pancakes and fall back asleep in a food coma.

This track, produced and remixed by The Freemasons, is sung the lovely Sophie Ellis-Bextor. A gay club icon in the UK, but barely known Stateside, was used in my recent Summer Pop 2011 mix, and the album track is one of my top songs of the Summer ("top 7" entry will be out later this week). Enjoy!

If you do not own this song, you must. It is simply one of the best songs ever written, and you must own it.

There's something about the beauty that is/was New Order that still haunts me in all the right ways (yes, I know the song was originally written by Ian Curtis - sit down you stupid hipster). The melodies they could produce were enchanting. The guitar chords take me out of my own head- over and over and over. And, the vocals are so melancholy they almost cross into the realm of uplifting.

This is easily my favorite remix of ANY Moby track. By the banger-heavy Spencer and Hill, this remix has been on my rotation for a few years, now. It's straight-up get the hell out of your seat and dance- and that's what I love about it. The drop at :59 is nearly orgasmic, and then the drops during the choruses (first one at 2:12) are so wonderfully aggressive, you can't help but move. The song also slowly instrumentally builds, which you know I always adore. Anyway, give it a spin, y'all:

So, since I moved to Tucson for grad school I have been thinking of doing a all-pop demo full of the gayest club music ever made- and I think this is pretty close. This is going to function as my demo for clubs here that play dance-pop.

This was quite the undertaking: 26 tracks in 45 minutes. A lot of electro-dance-pop from artists popular on every continent except the ones that don't matter (screw you Antarctica!). I love every moment of this, and I hope you dig it too! Ok, so, if you're a Bjork fan, you know that it takes a certain kind of mood to listen to her music - especially her obscure stuff (i.e. Medulla) that (to me) isn't that exceptional. For me, it requires a bathtub, a hangover, and a healthy portion of self-loathing. Still, it must be stated that she produced two of the most interesting and solid albums in history (Debut and Post), sang one of my favorite songs ever (Hyperballad), and has more talent in her icelandic hair extensions than 99% of today's pop artists.

She's back with a new album, Biophilia, about to drop September 27 in a very e-heavy (In Rainbows-esque) way. Here's your first taste, for those of you who didn't get this blasted into your inboxes a few weeks ago. I really hope she becomes relevant again- she has the raw goods to do so.

Ok, kids. This is an oldie but a goodie. I've been playing this track a long, long time, but haven't managed to fit it into any sets in the past few months. I actually played it at my very first Capital Pride (2009) set. It's great. Anyway, I had my iTunes on shuffle the other day, and it popped up... and wouldn't you just know it, it's still fucking great.

Personally, I love when The Killers are remixed. Perhaps it is my own personal issue, but this song makes me want to take lots of drugs and get naked at a rave with Brandon Flowers. WHAAAT!? Totally normal.

Sander Van Doorn gives it to The Killers like a dirty priest on the last day of Lent. Give it a spin.

Here's a song that has grown on me all week, thanks to my good friend Wes (previously of Coffee&Bars, now of KickKickSnare). He sent it to me with the assumption that it was up my alley, and he could not have been more accurate.

This is electro-clash meets pop and a splash of dance. Digitalism, a German duo founded in 2004, first caught my attention with two stellar tracks in 2008, ZDRLT (Rewind) and Taken Away. Now, FINALLY, they come back with something equally as good. Get it.

This song has been dominating me all week like leather daddy in a halfway house. It has commenced every car ride I've had since I got the album, and (though innately simple), this track is exactly what I love about Benny Benassi. It's layered and driving, with that distinct Benassi style of electro-house. It's almost bewitching. Trust me- this shit will get in your head. Put your headphones on (or play it on a good car stereo system) to truly appreciate it. Love it.

David Guetta is pretty watered down. Let's be real, folks. He's like Martin Solveig over rocks, with a splash of boredom. But, sometimes he uses a vocalist/lyricist who is of some sort of value. Sia is definitely pretty fucking awesome, and this track does not disappoint the eardrum, even if it is a bit predictable.

Mostly, I like how Sia is showcased here, instead of the dance-beat drone (of most of Guetta's stuff) flushing and drowning her out like a prom night baby. Hooray! Enjoy...

You see, I hate Kanye West's persona, and I barely dig him as an artist. He's a bag of horseshit, but he is saved here by my long-time affection for Jay-Z, and my LOVE for Elly Jackson (lead vocalist of La Roux). What you all don't know (and those douches aren't mentioning), is that backing vocal is provided by Connie Mitchell from Sneaky Sound System. La Roux and SSS in the same track? :::eargasm:::... It is also worth mentioning that this track is produced by Q-Tip, one of my favorite hip-hop artists.

Two bands that go back a-ways for me have returned with a vengeance (at least within these posted tracks).

Shiny Toy Guns have returned... to their original lineup! Thank you jesus. Seriously- that other lead vocalist chick was tolerable, but was no Carah Faye, who basically embodied the sound of a band that could have been on the brink of stardom, but instead fell into mediocrity. I hope this is the boost they need. Carah is lovely and this new track (which has been reworked with this remix) is a sign that things are moving in the proper direction. Thanks for not being dumbasses anymore, y'all.

Arctic Monkeys have recently put out their most pop-laden LP ever, Suck It And See. The track below is a testament to their versatility and talent (even if I don't really care much for the entire album). You'll never hear Arctic Monkeys so wonderfully melodic and introspective.
